Bavarians have been cycling since 1819. The first bicycles were walking devices, aka draisines after their inventor, the forestry official Karl von Drais. Yet the bicycle's success story did not kick off until after 1900. Around 100 years ago, the elegant sports and leisure device became a ubiquitous means of transport suitable for the masses. With today's megatrend of e-mobility, new requirements are being placed on the form and functions of the bicycle, but also on its significance. The success story of the bicycle is reflected in the sequence of different technical designs.
